A 1-year-old girl died after being critically injured in a crash on December 19, 2024, at the Excelled Montessori Plus School on Bexar County’s northwest side.

On January 2, 2025, Mkaya’s father, Pibo Amrani, confirmed her death to KSAT.

The crash occurred shortly after 4:15 p.m. on December 19, 2024, in the 27500 block of Interstate 10 near Fair Oaks Ranch Parkway.

During a Dec. 19, 2024, news conference, Bexar County Sheriff Salazar stated that the crash occurred while parents were picking up their children from a holiday performance.

After loading her children into a car, a parent sped into another car, ramming both into a fence.

Salazar stated that the teacher and a group of children were trapped beneath the car in a playground on the other side of the fence.

Salazar stated on December 19, 2024, that the five children had been taken to the hospital. The four other children’s current condition is unknown.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the teacher who died in the crash on December 20, 2024.

She was identified as Alexia Rosales, aged 22.

On December 20, 2024, the BCSO stated that the children were all around the age of one. Another adult woman, 23, was taken to the hospital with injuries.

In an email to KSAT, a fire chief from Bexar County Emergency Services District 4 stated that in addition to those transported to the hospital, one adult and two children were treated and released at the scene.

According to a school spokeswoman, another teacher was injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital.

Salazar stated on December 19, 2024, that the driver who caused the crash may have had a medical history that contributed to the accident. She was not thought to be intoxicated.

Salazar stated on the day of the crash that it is unclear whether or not charges will be filed against the driver.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office stated on Thursday that its “investigation remains ongoing,” but no new information was provided.

In a statement to KSAT, Amrani expressed gratitude for everyone’s prayers and vowed to continue fighting for justice.
