A Charles County man accused of killing his stepson over chores, according to authorities

On Wednesday, a Charles County man allegedly shot and killed his 15-year-old stepson over a dispute over raking leaves, according to the sheriff’s office.

On November 20 at 12:11 a.m., Charles County officers responded to the 6400 block of Huntt Road in La Plata for a report of a shooting.

“There was an argument earlier in the day about the juvenile not doing household chores, including leaf raking,” Charles County police spokesperson Diane Richardson explained.

The caller reported that the suspect, Darshan Eric Williams, 48, who lives at the house, shot his 15-year-old stepson. When officers arrived, they saw the suspect standing outside, and he was taken into custody without incident.

When Charles County police officers entered the home, they discovered the victim, Michael Edward Clemons, 15, unconscious and not breathing. Officers performed CPR until medics arrived and pronounced the victim dead on the scene.

Richardson stated that she was unaware of any previous incidents in the household and had no idea how long Williams had lived there.

Williams was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and other related offenses. He is currently being held in the Charles County Detention Center without bond.
