A Florida man was denied bond after being charged with fatally shooting another man he allegedly encountered at a drugstore.

Jaime Taylor, 28, was arrested on February 3 and charged with the murder of 27-year-old Anthony Souvenir.

According to a police report obtained by WPLG, a local ABC affiliate, Souvenir was at a Walgreens in Miramar, Florida, with his girlfriend and their baby.

Taylor was also in the store at the time, and the two men happened to meet. Souvenir then allegedly told Taylor, who was using his phone at the time, that he was “looking too hard” at his girlfriend.

The two men exchanged words, and the situation allegedly escalated. Police said both men had guns, and Taylor allegedly shot Souvenir first.

Souvenir reportedly attempted to pursue Taylor but collapsed. He was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss told WSVN, a local Fox affiliate, that the argument was a “customer dispute” that resulted in gunfire.

The alleged shooting occurred in front of several witnesses who called 911, including Souvenir’s girlfriend. She told police that “some random guy in the Walgreens” had shot her boyfriend, implying that she had no idea who Taylor was.

Other onlookers sought refuge inside the store after Taylor fled, with one saying, “Lock the door, can you lock the door?” and telling the dispatcher, “We’re afraid they’ll come back. “Please hurry up!”

Taylor had fled the scene, going to a friend’s house, but eventually surrendered to police. During a court appearance on February 4, a judge ordered that Taylor be held without bond.

Taylor was charged with first-degree murder.
