Alabama Flood Watch: Up to 5 Inches of Rain Expected by 7 PM Sunday Across Huntsville Area

Huntsville, AL – A widespread flood watch is in effect for north Alabama until 7 p.m. Sunday, as a powerful storm system approaches the Tennessee Valley region.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected, with isolated areas receiving more than 5 inches.

The alert, issued Saturday afternoon, includes Huntsville, Florence, Russellville, Cullman, Fort Payne, and parts of southern middle Tennessee, such as Fayetteville and Sewanee.

Officials warn that heavy rains may cause hazardous road conditions, localized flooding, and rapid rises in rivers, creeks, and streams. Low-lying areas and terrain-prone zones are particularly vulnerable to flooding.

Residents are advised not to drive through flooded roads or around barricades. If flash flood warnings are issued, authorities recommend that you move to higher ground.

Staying informed through local media and weather alerts is strongly advised.

The storm is expected to intensify late Saturday evening and last into Sunday afternoon.

While early April rainfall is not uncommon in the region, meteorologists believe the volume and rate of precipitation may exceed normal spring levels.
