Huntsville, AL — Heavy rainfall overnight triggered a Flood Watch in northern Alabama, which will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday.
Huntsville, Florence, Cullman, Fort Payne, and surrounding cities could see up to 5 inches of rain.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, 2 to 3 inches of rain fell overnight, with some isolated areas in northwest Alabama receiving closer to 4 inches.
Another 1 to 2 inches is expected today, potentially worsening flooding in rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas. Hazardous road conditions are a major concern, particularly in flood-prone areas.
Officials warn residents not to drive through flooded roads or around barricades. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains an important message. If a flash flood warning is issued, move to higher ground immediately.
Localized flooding may cause travel disruptions in Russellville, Fayetteville, and Stevenson.
Residents should keep an eye on local weather updates and be prepared for delays or school and business closures.
