These facts are especially interesting for women who already have kids or who are expecting. People all over the United States know about SNAP payments. You might not see WIC very often.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) used to be known as Food Stamps. WIC, on the other hand, stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. In fact, if you meet all the requirements, you can apply for both benefits in November or December.
SNAP requirements to apply in 2024
Before you do anything else, you should know that you can only apply for SNAP in the state where you live now. That’s the first thing you need to remember.
You can also only have a certain number of resources. In other words, the cash on hand, the money in your bank account, and any other resources that can be counted.

Along with living in the country and having certain resources, there are also income limits. People who receive benefits will also have to meet work requirements unless they are exempt. To sum up:
- income and resource limits
- residency requirements
- general and specific work requirements
- people aged 65 or with a disability may have special rules
If you get SNAP, check eligibility for WIC
If you are a woman and you are already receiving SNAP benefits, this program may allow you to meet the income eligibility requirement. In general, to be eligible you must be:
- pregnant
- postpartum
- breastfeeding
- infants
- children up to the age of 5
If a woman and her children meet the income requirements, they must also follow the state residency rule. Also, they have to be at risk of not getting enough food to get WIC payments. A health professional will decide what to do. The amount of money you make must be less than or equal to 185% of the US Poverty Level.
