A Columbia man was charged with four felonies on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a woman and threatening to kill her at a hotel on Monday.

Maurice Lee, 34, faces charges of first-degree domestic assault, second-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.

He is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond. A court hearing was held on Tuesday afternoon.

According to court documents, police were called to Birch Hill Suites early Monday to investigate a report of a man armed with a gun who was attacking another person.

The victim had blood on their temple when police arrived, appeared to have multiple injuries, and was losing consciousness while speaking with officers, according to the probable cause statement.

The victim claimed they had broken up the day before, and Lee allegedly arrived at the hotel room, which was already occupied by several people, and forced his way in, according to the statement.

According to the statement, Lee attacked the woman in a bathroom, shoved her into a sink, and repeatedly punched her before pulling out a gun and threatening her life.

Witnesses allegedly told police that he threatened to kill them as well after pulling out the gun and pointing it “at everyone in the room,” according to the statement.
