A couple is facing over 100 charges for what prosecutors describe as “horrific abuse” of a child.
Kyle Knox, 38, and Kayla Shepherd, 29, have been re-indicted on additional charges related to the alleged abuse, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
Knox was re-indicted on over 90 counts, including aggravated arson (persons harmed), endangering children (sexual matter), abuse (serious physical harm), strangulation (serious physical harm), and endangering children (cruel abuse/torture).
Shepherd was re-indicted on charges of aggravated possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
According to News Center 7, on November 18, Dayton police were called to a home in the 3300 block of Arlene Avenue after a neighbor reported seeing a 9-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy walking in the street, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The children informed officers that they had been left alone and were looking for assistance.
The eight-year-old boy sustained “significant, visible injuries.”
Prosecutors claim Knox, the mother’s boyfriend, repeatedly hit the 8-year-old boy, including punching him in the face several times.
When the children were left alone, they saw it as an opportunity to seek help.
Knox is currently held at the Montgomery County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
Shepherd is out on bond.
They are scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges on January 9.
