Despite objections, San Jose's new Costco was approved

A new Costco is going to West San Jose, even though many people in the area are against it. On Tuesday, the San Jose city council decided to allow the warehouse store to be built on Prospect Road.

After talking about it for three years, Costco can now start building its store. A lot of people want the city to ask Costco to add some rules to go with its shop.

The choice to build the Costco made a lot of people in the area angry. Lydia Tan, a junior at Prospect High School, says there is already a lot of traffic in the area.

“It scares me to think that this Costco will make things even worse for my friends who have been run over. I care about our community and don’t want us to get run over,” she said.

She has now asked the city for more help to make sure that other kids can walk to and from school safely.

There are a lot of cars that break the rules, so she said, “I’d like to see a crossing guard or some people to help control the traffic.”

Some people in the area are glad that Costco opened.

“The possible spot is right down the street from where I go to church.” “It will definitely help my church because we depend on Costco and it’s a pain to drive down to Sunnyvale,” said Michael Wang, who lives in San Jose.

Costco also says it will save 250 to 300 jobs in San Jose. The date that Costco will be built has not been set yet.
