Following the death of a 5-year-old, the Hamilton School District updated bus transfer policy

According to the Hamilton School District, 4K students will no longer transfer buses during morning routes.

This policy change comes after a 5-year-old was killed by a bus on Thursday.

The Hamilton School District says the change will start on Monday, January 6.

Current route assignments and pickup/drop-off times will remain unchanged. The district claims the change is in how the buses drop off the youngest students.

Beginning Monday, buses will transport the youngest students directly to Willow Springs Learning Center before continuing to Silver Spring Intermediate School and individual elementary schools.

The district also states that the traffic patterns at Silver Spring Intermediate School will be altered to improve safety.

The Hamilton School District says it has been working closely with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department and Dairyland Bus Company to find an immediate solution to the concerns raised following Thursday’s incident.

The district says it will monitor the new procedure and continue to look into long-term solutions.
