Hamilton Covered by Winter Storm: Officials Urge Cooperation for Snow-Clearing; City Services Adjust in Face of Closures

The City of Hamilton is buried under a blanket of white as heavy snowfall continues, with reports of at least 8 inches and counting. To manage the winter chaos, city officials urge residents to take immediate action.

Parking vehicles away from the street, particularly in cul-de-sacs, allows for unobstructed access to essential snow-clearing operations.

Failure to change parking habits may impede effective snow storage and create barriers around critical infrastructure, such as fire hydrants.

People shoveling snow are advised not to throw it indiscriminately into the streets, where it may be redeposited on driveways by passing plows.

Instead, residents should try to accumulate snow on the downstream side of their driveways.

The city has established a real-time portal for tracking snow plowing efforts, providing insight into the status of streets and snow removal updates.

The City Building was forced to close today due to the inclement weather, with the safety of municipal employees taking priority.

Nonetheless, essential services will continue, with calls routed to an answering service, as in other closed-office scenarios.

The Hamilton Municipal Court is also affected by the winter barrage, resulting in a temporary shutdown.

According to the City of Hamilton’s schedule, the 8 a.m. docket has been rescheduled for Monday, January 13, and the 1 p.m. docket for tomorrow, January 7.

In a compassionate move, the city has suspended utility disconnections this week, citing the extreme cold.

Residents can still contact the city’s answering service for help with their utilities. The storm is also impacting waste and recycling services.

Rumpke Waste & Recycling has announced that they will not collect trash today, urging residents to return their bins to aid in snow removal efforts.

Services are expected to resume on a delayed schedule beginning Tuesday and lasting until Saturday, January 11.

Any accidents or damage involving snow plows can be reported through an emailed request for a claims form to claims@hamilton-oh.gov.

The City of Hamilton officials are extending thanks to all residents for their cooperation and efforts in maintaining safety and accessibility during the extreme weather. Their message: stay safe and keep warm.
