A Butler County grand jury has indicted a 41-year-old man for murder and other felonies after allegedly beating a woman to death in Hamilton last month.
The indictment filed late Tuesday charges Marlowe Matthews of Hamilton with murder, felonious assault, and fourth-degree felony domestic violence.
Yolanda M. Wilson died on the night of November 24 in a room at the Cove Motel on Dixie Highway.
Hamilton police assert that they beat her to death. Following an autopsy, the Butler County Coroner’s Office determined that her cause of death was head trauma.
The indictment states that Wilson died between November 22 and 23.
Matthews has been in the Butler County Jail without bond since his initial arraignment in Hamilton Municipal Court last week on the murder charge.
The direct indictment has prevented his scheduled appearance in municipal court on Wednesday morning.
Around 7:30 p.m. on November 24, authorities discovered Wilson in Room 140 of the motel. Matthews allegedly entered the motel room around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 and stayed until 3 a.m. on Nov. 24.
When paramedics arrived, they discovered Wilson was unresponsive and had died. Wilson suffered multiple visible blunt force traumas to her head, according to a police report.
According to police, no one entered or exited Room 140 between Matthews’ departure and the arrival of officers and medics.
Butler County Common Pleas Judge Keith Spaeth has taken on Matthews’ case. Judge Keith Spaeth has not set an arraignment date for the aforementioned charges.
