Hamilton School District cancels classes at all schools following a school bus accident that killed 4K students

On Thursday morning, a fourth-grade student died after being struck by a school bus in the parking lot of Silver Spring Intermediate School.

According to a news release from the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred while the bus was carrying students.

The student who was struck was at the school to board a shuttle bus to Willow Springs Learning Center. The department is investigating the cause of the accident, and the bus driver is “fully cooperating,” according to the release.

“Our thoughts are with the student’s family, friends and the entire community during this heartbreaking time,” according to a release.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and the Pewaukee Fire Department reportedly assisted the department.

In a letter to parents, Hamilton School District Superintendent Paul Mielke stated that the incident occurred before the start of the school day.

“We are not sharing any additional information at this time to respect the family’s privacy. Please join me in expressing our heartfelt condolences to the student’s family.

We understand that this tragedy will elicit strong emotions, concerns, and questions from our entire school community, particularly our students,” Mielke wrote in the letter.

Mielke added that the district’s student services team “immediately began working with students and staff at several buildings” Thursday morning and will continue to provide assistance.

A district spokesperson announced Thursday that all classes for the entire district have been canceled for Friday.
