At Mar-a-Lago, Sylvester Stallone gave a speech for the President-elect in which he called Trump the “second George Washington.”
The Hollywood heavyweight attended a black tie gala on Thursday held to celebrate Trump’s election victory that was attended by many of his controversial cabinet picks, including RFK Jr and Matt Gaetz.
“If you remember, the first image in Rocky was a picture of Jesus with the words ‘Resurrection, AC Club’ on it,” Stallone told the crowd before Trump came on stage.
I came across a church that had been turned into a boxing ring. So the picture moves from Jesus to Rocky getting hit. That’s when I knew he was the one God had chosen, and that was the start of my journey.
“This man was going to change. Something was going to happen that would change lives.” In the same way that Trump does.
“What we’re seeing is a really mythical character,” Stallone said. “Mythology is my thing.” This person does not exist in the world. I’m amazed because no one else could have done what he did.
He then said, “And I’ll just say this, and I mean it.” “George Washington didn’t know he was going to change the world when he fought for his country.” Because you can picture what the world would be like without him. What do you think? The second George Washington showed up. Many congratulations.
After introducing the next president, the Rocky star took the stage and embraced Trump. Trump then gave a victory speech.
Trump is said to have been obsessed with an apparent rivalry with Stallone and to have told a journalist that he is “better than Sylvester Stallone at being a reality star.” Stallone’s praise of Trump comes after Trump was said to have said the same thing about Stallone.
This author, Ramin Setoodeh, talked to Trump more than once for his book, Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass, which came out on June 18.
Variety reported in October that Setoodeh talked about the Republican presidential nominee at Mipcom, an event for the TV market.
He said that Trump was hosting Mark Burnett’s business-themed reality show The Apprentice at the same time that Stallone was working on The Contender with the same TV producer.
Setoodeh said that Trump was very envious and told people that “Sylvester Stallone wasn’t as good at making TV” and that he “couldn’t remember his lines, couldn’t deliver the words to the prompter.”
As they shook hands on the stage in Florida, it looked like any problems the two may or may not have had were gone.
And Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone’s action rival from the 1980s, repeatedly spoke out against Trump during the election campaign, which is a big difference between the two.
Schwarzenegger, a Republican who was governor of California from 2003 to 2011, wrote a long post on X Wednesday morning in which he criticized both parties. He then said he would be voting for the vice president.
He wrote on social media in October, “Four more years of bulls*** with no results that makes us angrier and angrier, more divided, and more hateful.”
