Klein ISD confirmed that second-grade student Eren Rivera died after a medical emergency at Epps Island Elementary School on Tuesday.
The district issued a statement on Wednesday, saying it was “heartbroken by the loss of one of our students,” and that it is awaiting the medical examiner’s report.
Due to privacy concerns, district officials are unable to release any additional information; however, the district will provide counseling and support services to anyone in need.
ABC13 spoke with Rivera’s relative and family friend, who said district officials reported the 7-year-old had a medical episode in the school cafeteria. Relatives are devastated and are preparing a funeral.
