Two accused murderers in Florida told a local TV station that one impregnated the other while incarcerated, despite never meeting face to face.
Daisy Link, 29, and Joan Depaz, 23, spoke with local Fox affiliate WVSN from inside the Miami-Dade County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation facilities. For allegedly killing her husband in 2022, Link faces charges of second-degree murder.
However, she informed her family over the phone last Christmas that she had become pregnant while an inmate at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She gave birth to a baby girl in June. Family members are caring for the baby.
Link previously told her family that the inmate impregnated her by passing his sperm in plastic wrap through an air conditioning vent.
In an interview with WVSN, Link and his father, Depaz, described the incident in greater detail. Link stated that she began speaking with Depaz through the air conditioning vents in their cells.
This is related coverage: “After being in isolation for a long time, you start to spend hours and hours talking to this person, to the point where it’s almost as if you’re in the same room with them,” she recalled.
Depaz then expressed his desire to become a father after they became romantically involved. He reasoned that his imprisonment on a first-degree murder charge could delay his release.
So, the two devised a plan. They claimed to have tied bedsheets together and ran them through the vents and into their cells.
“I wrapped the semen in Saran wrap five times a day for about a month straight,” Depaz told the TV station.
Link explained: “He would roll it up, almost like a cigarette, and attach it to the line we had in the vent, which I would then pull through.” I then placed it inside the yeast infection applicators. I placed it inside the applicator and then administered the medication.
According to the couple, she became pregnant suddenly.
The two appeared proud of their accomplishment.
“She’s a miracle baby, a blessing,” Link stated.
When asked if he’d ever physically touched Link, Depaz went Biblical.
“Never, like the Virgin Mary,” he replied.
According to the television station, the jail is still investigating how this happened.
As previously reported by Law&Crime, Link allegedly shot her husband in the leg on June 25, 2022, outside their homestead.
“I think I hit a major artery; you’ll be fine,” a video allegedly shows Link telling the husband, who later died.
Details about Depaz’s case were not immediately available.
Both remain in jail awaiting their trials.
