Ohio Freeze Watch: Sub-25°F Temps Threaten Crops from Cincinnati to Columbus Late Monday into Tuesday

Cincinnati, OH – A widespread freeze watch has been issued in Ohio, with temperatures below 25°F expected to affect crops and outdoor systems from late Monday night to Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued an alert that will last from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Tuesday and will cover much of central and southern Ohio, including Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati. Union, Franklin, Carroll, Boone, and Kenton counties are among those in eastern Indiana and northern Kentucky that are being monitored.

The forecast predicts overnight lows in the lower to mid-20s, a significant drop for early April.

These conditions could cause significant damage to unprotected vegetation, such as budding crops and garden plants.

Outdoor plumbing, particularly above-ground pipes and sprinkler systems, can be hazardous if not properly insulated or drained.

Residents are encouraged to cover sensitive plants, bring in potted vegetation, and take precautions to protect plumbing infrastructure.

Gardeners and farmers throughout the region should pay close attention to local updates.

Temperatures are expected to rise later Tuesday, but forecasters warn that this cold snap could be one of the season’s last.

Historically, the Ohio Valley’s last freeze occurs between April 10 and April 20, depending on elevation and location.
