Ohio man is on the run after escaping police custody

On Monday, a man escaped from police custody in Northeast Ohio and is still at large.

Elyria Police responded to an apartment on Monday night for a welfare check and discovered 31-year-old Donte Jamar Parker II hiding inside.

Parker was arrested on outstanding felony warrants, but as he was being escorted out of the apartment, he fled.

On Tuesday, surveillance footage captured Parker walking toward a wooded area near the Black River.

This prompted a second, more thorough search of the area. Search teams even rappelled down a hillside to get a better view of the river and its banks.

However, the operation was temporarily halted due to safety concerns.

Despite hazardous ice conditions that prevented the use of rescue boats, emergency personnel returned to searching the waterline and surrounding areas on foot and with drones by Wednesday.

Parker is currently missing.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Larson at (440) 326-1211. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at www.cityofelyria.org/tips .
