Pittsburgh, PA – A new wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to impact Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio on Friday night, bringing the risk of severe weather and flooding into early next week.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh predicts that the heaviest rainfall will begin around 8 p.m. on Friday, with the most severe conditions expected in eastern Ohio and counties west of Pittsburgh.
Cities like Akron, Canton, and Cleveland have a 50-64% chance of receiving more than a half-inch of rain overnight. The primary severe weather threats are high winds and hail.
The flood watch remains in effect in Pittsburgh and the surrounding Allegheny County due to rising Ohio River levels. The river is expected to crest around 18 feet Friday night before potentially rising again late Sunday or Monday. The flood stage is 22 feet.
Residents throughout the region should brace themselves for a wet and stormy weekend. Stronger storms are possible Saturday night and Sunday, with flood risks continuing into Monday afternoon.
Travelers should avoid flooded roads and pay attention to weather alerts. With widespread rain expected, particularly in urban and low-lying areas, flash flooding may occur quickly.
