People in the United States who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will soon get their December payment. The check or direct deposit will come on Black Friday, though. In other words, on November 29, 2024. You may have guessed it already: two days early. December 1 is a Sunday, so there will be no pay that day.
SSI and Social Security payments do not go out on Sunday or Saturday. Remember that every office, bank, and other financial institution will be shut down. So, SSA needs to send the direct deposits on November 29, the last business day before.
SSI payment scheduled for late December
People who get SSI will not only get their December payment early, but they will also get a check or direct deposit for January. Because of this important change in the payment schedule for Supplemental Security Income, the check will be due on December 31 instead of January 1.
This time, January 1 doesn’t fall on a weekend. But it’s a federal holiday, and a lot of people in the US will be celebrating the New Year. It’s interesting that this is the first SSI payment with the new COLA.
Because of this, payments for Supplemental Security Income will go up by 2.5%. It might not seem like much, but you will need it if your income is very low and you can’t pay your bills.
SSI payment amounts for January and December
On December 31, 2023, the most that Supplemental Security Income will pay out is $967. On November 29, 2024, it will only go up to $943. This is a person’s biggest check or deposit.
On December 31, 2024, a married couple can get up to $1,450 if both of them are eligible for the most money. The SSI payment on November 29 will still be up to $1,415 though.
Don’t forget that if you get $100 from this Federal benefit, you will get $2.50. That means you will get an extra $5 if you get a $200 check or deposit in 2024.
