The suspect who allegedly killed a Massachusetts mother and her baby in a drive-by shooting in Hartford was apprehended by the US Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force in Puerto Rico on Saturday morning, according to the Hartford Police Department.
Lance “Macho” Morales, 23, of Waterbury, has been charged with criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, two counts of murder, and murder with special circumstances.
On November 19, at 2:47 p.m., Hartford police responded to Hartford Hospital after a vehicle arrived carrying three gunshot victims.
Jessiah Mercado, 20, and her four-month-old son, Messiah Diaz, were later pronounced dead. A third victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The police investigation determined that the shooting occurred earlier, near 380 New Britain Avenue. Morales pulled alongside the car and opened fire, shooting three people.
A probable cause was established, and an arrest warrant was approved to charge Morales with the shooting.
Morales is being held on a $3 million bond and is awaiting extradition back to the United States.
