Nashville, TN – More than 3.4 million people in Tennessee are under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. Saturday, as severe weather threatens to bring damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes.
According to the US National Weather Service in Nashville, the tornado watch extends across Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky, including Nashville, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, and Bowling Green.
The affected area also includes Florence, Alabama. The watch, which was set to expire at 7 p.m., has been extended until 9 p.m. CDT due to the ongoing threat of multiple storm systems.
The Weather Service warns of tornadoes, isolated hail up to ping pong ball size, and widespread wind gusts of up to 75 mph. Storms move quickly through already saturated areas, which raises the risk of flash flooding.
Residents should stay alert, monitor weather updates, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Outdoor plans should be postponed, and those in mobile homes or vulnerable structures should seek more secure shelter.
Schools and hospitals throughout the region remain on alert, with emergency responders urging the public to take this warning seriously. The watchlist includes 853 schools and 80 hospitals.
Stormy weather may continue into early Sunday morning.
