Thanksgiving and Black Friday to come – Two gifts from Social Security in the form of checks

The holidays are coming up quickly, and next week we’ll all be eating turkey, hopefully with family, to start the season of joy that’s about to begin. In fact, one reason retirees worry in November is because of Thanksgiving. But there is some good news for people who still haven’t gotten their Social Security check.

It’s a month with a lot of costs, like buying enough food to feed a small army or a family and shopping like crazy on Black Friday and Cyber Monday to find the best deals on Christmas gifts. Many people worry that their check won’t arrive in time for the turkey or the shopping. That won’t happen this year, though.

Social Security payments in November

Most beneficiaries will have already gotten their monthly check, so they are covered for all of their expenses. However, there is one group that still hasn’t gotten their retirement check: people born between January 21st and December 31st of any month.

They will get their November deposit on November 27, 2024. This is the usual date for this payment to be sent, but a lot of people are worried that the holidays will make it late.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) makes a lot of payments every year, and this is not the time for them to mess up. The SSA works like a well-oiled machine, so all of your checks will be ready to be deposited on time so you can spend them.

Things go wrong the same way every year, especially in the winter. There are things that can’t be helped, like unexpected snowfalls, system failures, natural disasters, and so on. However, there are ways to make sure that the money doesn’t get lost and gets to the right person on time for important times of the year.

This year, there’s more good news right after Thanksgiving. A lot of people will also get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments in their bank accounts and mailboxes! In time to go shopping.

Social Security Insurance (SSI) gives monthly payments to disabled people and older adults who have little or no other income or resources. Not all retirees will get this extra payment, but those who do will get their December SSI payment early, on November 29.

This is not an effort by the federal government to make shopping easier, which is too bad, because that would be nice. In this case, the SSA followed the right steps because the distribution date fell on a weekend or a National Holiday.

In this case, December 1st, when SSI should be given out, is a Sunday. This means that the payment needs to be moved to the day before, when banks are open and the US Postal Service delivers mail.

Despite what most people think, Black Friday is not a federal holiday. Banks are open and mail is delivered, and most companies take advantage of the extra time off. That’s why SSI checks will be sent out on November 29.

If you’ve gotten your SSI checks yet or are still waiting, don’t spend the whole amount all at once. You still have Christmas to think about, and you won’t get any more until December 31st, which is after most of your expenses have been paid. It will still be a nice gift to ring in the new year, though.
