CINCINNATI — An Ohio family is in mourning after their daughter was mauled by two dogs on December 27th.
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office identified the child as Kingsley Wright, who was three years old.
According to Cincinnati Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. inside a home in the 7000 block of Stillwell Road.
According to 911 calls, Wright was attacked while sleeping on the couch in her living room.
“I just woke up to find that my daughter had died. There’s blood everywhere, and I have no idea what happened,” said a man identifying himself as Wright’s father to dispatchers. “I don’t understand what went on.”
As emergency crews approached the Roselawn apartment, the dispatcher instructed the man to “put away” any pets.
“They’re in the cage, that’s why I’m like, ‘Did any of my pets attack her or something?'” He said.
“Were they out loose?” The dispatcher asked.
“No,” the caller replied.
According to Lt. Cunningham, the dogs were also known by the family.
Cincinnati Animal CARE responded to the scene that morning.
According to a media spokesperson for the shelter, police called to remove three dogs from the home. Those dogs are now in a state-mandated 10-day quarantine period.
According to Ohio law, dogs that have bitten someone must be quarantined for at least 10 days for rabies observation. In addition, the owner of the dog(s) is held liable if the animal causes harm or death.
Brown Funeral Home in Wilmington, where the three-year-old is from, is organizing her funeral services.
In her obituary, Wright was described as a “happy girl with a beautiful laugh and smile” who enjoyed singing and dancing for her family.
Wright “always saw the positive and bright side of everything around her,” according to her obituary.
