Three Ohio cities are among the worst places to find a job in 2025

Anyone who has ever looked for a job knows how difficult and time-consuming the process can be. Finding a job can be difficult at times, whether due to a competitive market in one city or a lack of jobs in another.

Depending on where you live, you may have a better chance of finding new employment opportunities.

WalletHub analyzed nearly 200 cities across the United States to determine which are the “best places to find a job” in 2025, taking into account how the job market compares to other destinations as well as how the socioeconomic status measures up. Five Ohio cities are on the list, but the majority are ranked as some of the worst in the country.

  • No. 73: Cincinnati
  • No. 87: Columbus
  • No. 141: Cleveland
  • No. 152: Toledo
  • No. 155: Akron

Coming in at No. 155 overall, Akron ranked near the bottom of the list due to low marks in both the job market and the socioeconomic categories, despite having some of the most affordable housing of the cities on the list.

Here are the ten best places to find a job in 2025:

  1. Scottsdale, Arizona
  2. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  3. Columbia, Maryland
  4. South Burlington, Vermont
  5. Portland, Maine
  6. Charleston, South Carolina
  7. Chandler, Arizona
  8. Washington, D.C.
  9. Tempe, Arizona
  10. Orlando, Florida

To compile its list, WalletHub compared 182 cities in the United States based on two key factors: job market and socioeconomics.

These factors were then assessed using 31 relevant metrics, which included job opportunities, employment growth, unemployment rate, job security, industry diversity, job satisfaction, internship access, median annual income, transit score, housing affordability, safety, family-friendliness, annual transportation costs, dating-friendliness, and others.
