A 19-year-old from New Jersey has been arrested for allegedly murdering two women over the weekend, beating them to death inside a New York flat just hours after the accused killer posted videos of themselves dancing on TikTok.
Alan “Alena” Abad was arrested on Sunday and charged with one count of first-degree murder in the attack, authorities said.
According to a Spring Valley Police Department news release, officers responded to a welfare check request at an apartment complex on Gesner Drive around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 15. The building is approximately 30 miles north of Manhattan.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they discovered two adult females who appeared to have sustained “significant head injuries.” Authorities did not publicly identify the victims.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was rushed to the nearby Westchester Medical Centre, where she died from her injuries.
Following a preliminary investigation, police identified Abad of Westwood, New Jersey, as the primary suspect. The suspect was arrested less than 24 hours later, but authorities did not specify where Abad was taken into custody.
After being arrested, Abad was transported and processed at the Rockland County Jail. Police said Abad was arraigned on a murder charge and remanded to detention.
While the motive for the alleged attack was not revealed, authorities stated that it was an isolated incident in which the alleged attacker and the victims knew each other, and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
Police also stated that no victims were shot.
“There were no firearms involved, despite earlier posts and reports,” the release states.
According to the local news website Daily Voice, Abad is a male who identifies as female. In the hours leading up to Abad’s alleged murder of the two women, the suspect posted several TikTok videos of himself dancing outside to a variety of songs.
The final video clip shows Abad eating pizza. In the video, an older woman is seen sitting in a chair in the background.
Abad is currently in detention.
