Wawa's first Ohio store opens April 16 as it expands throughout the Midwest

Wawa has begun its expansion into the Midwest, with the first Ohio Wawa store set to open on April 16, according to Rachel Gignac of CSP.

The date coincides with the establishment of Wawa’s first store in Folsom, which opened on April 16, 1964.

Wawa Day, which commemorates the anniversary of that date, will be observed at all 1,100 Wawa locations.

Butler County’s new store will be located at 7198 Cincinnati Dayton Road in Liberty Township.

It is the first of eight to ten Wawa stores scheduled to open in Ohio by the end of the year. Wawa’s expansion program will take it into the tenth state, Ohio.

Wawa plans to build and open six to ten stores per year in Ohio over the next five to eight years, totaling up to 60 locations across the state.

The Delaware County-based convenience store chain is investing over $7.5 million and hiring approximately 140 contractors and local partners to make it happen.

Each store will employ approximately 35 people, with 2,100 new long-term positions created.

“This historic milestone kicks off our ongoing growth and expansion in Ohio as we continue to build new stores and create new jobs,” said Wawa President Brian Schaller.
