The Chiefs landed in Denver late Saturday — or much later than they had planned anyway.
Their charter plane to this weekend’s Broncos game was delayed by nearly four hours due to inclement weather in Kansas City.
Kansas City International Airport halted flight operations Saturday afternoon due to icy runway and taxiways.
As a result, the Chiefs were forced to wait nearly four hours aboard their plane before they could depart. The plane eventually left Kansas City for Denver at 5:20 p.m. Saturday and landed about an hour and a half later.
The team attempted to leave earlier in the day, hoping to beat the winter storm. However, mechanical issues with the charter plane prevented an earlier takeoff. Those issues pushed them back to their usual afternoon departure time — until icy conditions intervened and pushed it even further.
KCI suspended operations for 2 1/2 hours.

The Chiefs-Broncos game is set for Sunday at 3:25 p.m. Central Time at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
The Chiefs have already secured the AFC’s top seed, prompting them to rest starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but the Broncos must defeat the Chiefs to ensure their playoff berth.
Much of the Chiefs’ playoff hopes were dependent on the results of Saturday’s two NFL games.
By the way, the last time the league cancelled a game was in Week 17 of the 2022 season. The Bills-Bengals game was called off due to a serious injury to Buffalo’s Damar Hamlin.
