A Belleville woman has been charged with stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a Bergen County bank where she worked as a manager, authorities said.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced last week that the 43-year-old woman had been charged with two counts of theft after a months-long investigation.
According to authorities, the investigation began in March 2024 after they were contacted about the misappropriation of customer funds at the bank. The prosecutor’s office did not reveal the name of the bank.
The woman stole $54,648 from cash boxes under her control and withdrew approximately $15,000 from a customer’s account, redirecting the funds to conceal the ongoing theft, according to prosecutors.
On January 8, the woman surrendered to detectives at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and was charged with two counts of third-degree theft by deception.
She was released to await her first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
According to Musella, the Belleville Police Department worked with the prosecutor’s Financial Crimes Unit to investigate the case.
