More charges have been brought against a woman and her boyfriend in connection with the death of her 3-year-old son. Last month, a hunter found his bones in the woods in northeastern Wisconsin.

Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre charged Katrina Baur on Thursday with ongoing child neglect that caused death, child abuse, and resisting or obstructing a police officer.

Jesse Vang is accused of child abuse, killing someone more than once, hiding a body, and fighting or obstructing a police officer.

Vue was last seen at Vang’s house in Two Rivers in February. His body parts were found on September 7 about 3 miles from where a man last saw him getting his land ready for deer season.

A police report says Baur left her son with Vang on February 12 so that Vang could teach him “how to be a man.” Vang called the police on February 20 to say that the boy was missing.

He said that he had taken a nap and brought the boy into his bedroom with him. After three hours, he woke up and found him gone.

Baur, from Wisconsin Dells, was charged in February with one felony count of being a party to child abuse and two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer.

He pleaded not guilty to all three counts. Vang was then charged with one count of child neglect, which is a crime. He also said he wasn’t guilty of the February charges.

“This has been a complicated investigation,” LaBre told reporters Thursday. “Hundreds of pages of police reports, video evidence, and other materials have been carefully looked over.”

She also said, “This is a terrible situation that has shaken our community.”

Bail hearings for Baur and Vang were planned for Friday.

The Associated Press tried to get Baur’s lawyer, Amber Gratz, to speak Thursday afternoon by email and voicemail. A message was also left asking Timothy Hogan, who works for Vang, to say something.
