OHIO VALLEY — A tornado watch has been issued for the entire viewing area. It will be effective from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
A line of thunderstorms is expected to pass through the area in the early afternoon, ahead of a cold front.
As the skies cleared a little in the late morning, instability levels increased.
A fast-moving squall line is expected to pass through the area, bringing gusty winds and possibly a few embedded spin-up tornadoes.
Western Pennsylvania will face the greatest threat from tornadic activity, but the viewing area is on the outskirts of that area.
Belmont, Coshocton, Jefferson, Noble, Carroll, Guernsey, Monroe, Tuscarawas, Columbiana, Harrison, and Muskingum are among the Ohio counties currently under surveillance.
Brooke, Ohio, Hancock, and Marshall counties in West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle are under watch.
Allegheny, Washington, Fayette, Westmoreland, and Greene counties in Pennsylvania are all under a tornado watch.
Stay weather-aware, and if a tornado warning is issued, go to your basement until it expires.
If you don’t have a basement, relocate to an interior room on the lowest level of your home (without windows or a shared outside wall).
According to the NWS, flying debris is a serious threat to those without shelter.
Mobile homes can be damaged or destroyed. Roofs, windows, and vehicles are all likely to be damaged, as are trees.
Weather spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather conditions using the Standard Operating Procedures.
