A Georgia woman gave birth to a baby boy without telling her boyfriend, who allegedly discovered the child in a trash bag outside their home. She is now facing charges of attempted murder.

Alaynah Rappuhn, 22, was arrested on April 1, one day after visiting the emergency room at Piedmont Macon Hospital for “excessive bleeding.”

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Rappuhn’s boyfriend discovered her condition on March 31 and took her to the hospital for treatment. Before they left, she placed a trash bag on the back porch.

When the boyfriend returned home to retrieve some of Rappuhn’s belongings, he noticed the trash bag on the back porch—and then noticed that the bag was moving.

Police reported that when he opened the bag, he discovered a newborn baby boy “wrapped in towels.” The baby was then transported to the hospital, where police stated that he is alive but in critical condition.

According to a sheriff’s office press release, Rappuhn did not inform her boyfriend that she was pregnant or had given birth. Police reported that she gave birth around 4:30 a.m. on March 31, “then wrapped the child in towels and placed him inside a trash bag.”

Rappuhn did not inform medical personnel at the hospital that she had given birth when she arrived on March 31.

Rappuhn was taken into custody after being released from the hospital on April 1.

She faced charges of attempted murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. Rappuhn was ordered after a court appearance to be held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
