Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, comforting sides – there’s just something about a hearty BBQ meal!

Where do you go for high-quality BBQ? There are numerous restaurants in Michigan that serve delicious barbeque, but only one has been named the best.

Lovefood.com sought to identify the best BBQ restaurant in each state based on customer reviews, awards, and the team’s own experiences.

Previously, the foodie publication named A.B.’s Amazing Ribs in Dearborn Heights the best place in Michigan for BBQ ribs. Foodandwine.com recommends one restaurant in Ann Arbour and three in Detroit for the best barbeque in the state…

This time around, another restaurant has been crowned the best overall for BBQ – Lovefood’s pick is Two Scotts Barbecue in Grand Rapids.

Scott Hartmann and Scott Luecht (hence the name “Two Scotts”) opened the restaurant at 536 Leonard St. NW in 2015, which was previously an A&W Root Beer Stand.

The Scotts describe their food as “a ‘new’ Michigan regional style of barbeque,” incorporating different flavors, spices, and BBQ styles that they picked up on their separate travels across the country.

While they do not avoid sauces, the owners prefer a more traditional approach of dry, spice-rubbed meats.

Two Scotts BBQ’s MENU includes pulled pork, pulled chicken, sausage, wings, brisket, burn ends, St. Louis ribs, and rib tips.

Das Reuben, Parkside (Parkside Kielbasa, caramelized peppers and onions on a hoagie roll), and Sloppy Scott (burnt ends, caramelized onions, slaw on a brioche bun) are some of the sandwich options.

They even have a vegetarian sandwich: a hoagie bun stuffed with hand-seasoned fried cauliflower, slaw, “flower nectar” (their signature BBQ sauce), and crispy dill pickles.

The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
