A box company with a strong Hamilton presence plans to open a plant in Indiana

Saica, a European corrugated box manufacturer, will open its second US operation in the Midwest as the company expands.

Furthermore, the new facility will serve as a backup plant for customers served by the McBride Court plant in Hamilton.

The company announced a $110 million project in Anderson, Indiana, about 100 miles northwest of its first U.S. plant in Hamilton. The company announced that construction on a “state-of-the-art facility” will begin in May and be completed by the end of 2026.

Saica Group expects to create more than 100 new jobs once the plant is fully operational.

Saica is one of the largest companies that develops and manufactures recycled paper for corrugated packaging.

The company will have 50 full-time jobs during the first two years of operation, and more than 100 after the plant is completed and during what is known as the “ramp-up phase.”

This is consistent with the employment strategy that was implemented when the Hamilton plant opened in 2021 at its 360,000-square-foot manufacturing Hamilton facility, which the company referred to as a “smart warehouse” because of its cutting-edge machinery and storage space.

Saica, which has been in operation since 1943, is a family-owned company with over 12,000 employees in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Turkey, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the United States, and Poland.

“Saica is dedicated to stability and long-term growth in the United States.

This investment demonstrates that we are moving forward with our plans in the United States, as we are confident that we can provide products that will differentiate us in a crowded market,” said Susana Alejandro, president and CEO of Saica Group.

The new facility will be nearly 350,000 square feet and capable of producing over 1,200,000 MSF of corrugated packaging.

The Indiana facility will house manufacturing, converting, and production areas, as well as a warehouse and office space. The plant is connected to a railroad line for the delivery of paper rolls, which lowers shipping costs.

The Monday announcement followed a previous one regarding the box-maker’s expansion plans. Saica intends to invest approximately $800 million in the United States, according to the company.
