Yesterday’s tense, hour-long search spanning several Ohio counties resulted in the 37-year-old man allegedly stealing a semi-truck being arrested.

Joseph Allen Horton, who led police on a pursuit starting in Middletown and ending close to a local sports area known as Spooky Nook, was arrested according reports from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 12:47 p.m., C-Jams Trucking Company notified the Ohio State Highway Patrol and local police of a missing 2013 Kenworth semi-truck, sparking the hunt. They followed the quickly fleeing vehicle from Interstate 75.

Local 12 and FOX 19 claim that authorities had to quickly implement stop sticks, or tire deflation devices, to stop the high-speed pursuit on U.S. 127 close to Spooky Nook.

Horton reportedly tried to block the police by throwing tools and hammers out the truck’s window throughout the pursuit.

Commenting on the gravity of the matter, Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones posted a video of the chase on social media.

The risk to other drivers and responding police grew sharply as the car swerved wildly across traffic.

Horton is charged a third-degree felony for noncompliance and a fourth-degree felony for acquiring pilfers.

While all allegations are now handled by Butler County, more charges from Middown, Trenton, and Preble County are forthcoming.

As the Journal-News noted, Sheriff Jones’s Facebook live comment suggested a more measured ending to an otherwise explosive event.
