In Kentucky, police found a little boy locked in a cage inside a house. This led to the arrest of five people.
A possible case of child abuse led the Carrolton Police Department to a home in the 700 block of 7th Street, the department said in a Facebook post.
Police were “working from a previous tip from the community” that a child might be “held in a caged area.” Police found a boy younger than 3 years old behind a “wooden and metal enclosure that was secured with a padlock.” The boy was naked.
Police got a warrant to search the house even more, took two children out, and gave them to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to care for. Five people were arrested on charges of putting children in danger and abusing them in the first degree.
These people are suspected: Shelby Turocy, 28, of Ghent; Brenda Chilton, 71; William Mahoney, 72; Codey Johnson, 29; Tammy Simmons, 52; and Codey Johnson. Turocy is also being charged with having methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana on his person.
The news release didn’t say anything about the connections between the people who were arrested and the boy. Also, it’s not clear if the boy needed any medical help. There was no probable cause arrest affidavit available right away.
The suspects will be put on trial for the charges on Wednesday. All five of them are being held without bond at the Carroll County Detention Center. Detectives are still looking into the case. There was no other information given out.
Carrolton is on the border between Kentucky and Indiana. It is about 50 miles northeast of Louisville.
