Winter Weather Alert: Snowstorm to Hit Southern Colorado from 3 PM Friday to 3 PM Saturday

Pueblo, CO – A winter storm warning is in effect for southern Colorado from 3 p.m. Friday, April 4, to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, as heavy snow is expected to blanket the area.

The Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Wet Mountains, and surrounding areas could receive 6 to 14 inches of snow, with winds gusting up to 45 mph.

The National Weather Service warns travelers to expect difficult driving conditions, such as snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.

The Friday evening commute may be particularly affected by inclement weather. Cuchara, Spanish Peaks, and Rye are among the areas with the highest snowfalls.

The storm is also expected to bring significant snowfall to the Trinidad Vicinity and Walsenburg areas, with 4 to 8 inches possible, particularly at higher elevations. Winds gusting up to 40 mph could put motorists in danger.

Officials advise travelers to pack an emergency kit with extra food, water, and a flashlight, and to check road conditions by dialing 511 before leaving.
