Hamilton County correctional officer detained and charged with illegal conveyance

A Hamilton County corrections officer was arrested and charged for allegedly bringing prohibited items into the jail.

Officials said Richard Sampson, 46, has been charged with two counts of illegal conveyance. One charge is a third-degree felony, and the other is a first-degree misdemeanor.

Sampson, a jail services deputy, has worked for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office since July of 2023.

Sampson was placed on unpaid administrative leave while criminal and internal investigations continue.

Sampson is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday for his arraignment. Court documents did not specify what Sampson was accused of bringing to the jail.
