The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office revealed Tuesday that two convicts died while in its custody in the last week.
Matthew Dennler, 54, died at the Hamilton County Justice Centre on Thursday, November 28, according to department spokesperson Kyla Woods.
Dennler was arrested on open warrants and admitted to the jail on Tuesday, November 26, according to Woods. Court paperwork regarding the particular charges were not immediately available.
Woods said he was found unresponsive in his cell on Thursday. Officers and medical personnel performed life-saving procedures but were unsuccessful.
Jacob Grayson, 25, collapsed on Wednesday, Nov. 27, in the pod’s common room, according to Woods. Officers and medical personnel reacted, and he was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre, where he subsequently died. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has not yet revealed the date of his death.
According to court documents, Grayson was detained on November 25 for violating his probation. Grayson pleaded no guilty to possessing a fentanyl-related substance in February. According to the records relating to the parole violation, Grayson tested positive for fentanyl and failed to report to the probation department in July.
According to the Enquirer, 14 individuals died at the Hamilton County Justice Centre between August 2020 and September 2023.
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause of death for both inmates. The sheriff’s office is also looking into both fatalities.
Woods stated that no foul play is suspected in either case. She also stated that no force was utilised on any detainee.
